What is true manhood and womanhood?

I'm in the process of putting together a paper for class.  No, this is not a ploy to have you write my paper.  But as you know I often write to think so here we go again...  In my paper I'm asked to find a clear statement by evangelical Christians who hold to an egalitarian view of marital roles (husban and wife as equal in their authority and roles).  Write a 4 page paper explaining their view and critique it using a biblical argument.  Be sure to footnote and list your sources in this paper.

So in hopes of finding some sources I jumped on Google and went to town.  The list here is what I found that interested me from "both sides of the fence" so to speak.  The first 5 are written from the egalitarian perspective and most of them were taken from the website "Christians for Biblical Equality" one of the main leaders of the egalitarian perspective.  The next 5 are written from the complementary perspective and most of them were taken from the website "The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood".

  1. Chain of Command or Mutual Submission: Evangelicals Dispute Family Models by Sandra Cook-Dufield
  2. The Biblical Basis for Women's Service in the Church by N.T. Wright
  3. The Bible and Gender Equality by Rebecca Merrill Groothuis
  4. An examination of the seven pillars upon which the case for permanent subordination of women stands by Kevin Giles
  5. Affirming and Celebrating the Gift of Gender by Jean Bearden and Lorie Schleck
  6. Summaries of the Egalitarian and Complementarian Positions on the Role of Women in the Home and in Christian Ministry by Bruce A. Ware
  7. A Female Apostle? by David Jones
  8. The Myth of Mutual Submission as an Interpretation of Ephesians 5:21 by Wayne Grudem
  9. Does Head Mean "Source" or "Authority Over" in Greek Literature: A Survey or 2336 Examples by Wayne Grudem
  10. Able to Teach and Complementarian? by Kim Pennington

I'm in the processing these articles and putting together a 4 page paper... no easy task for me... for my Marriage and Family Counseling class.  I've got just 2 classes and a thesis left to finish my masters... the road is long but I think there will be light around this next bend.

By the way I started a wordpress and a facebook if anyone is interested.

TEOTE?

80% of the worlds unreached people groups live in RANs (anyone want to guess what that stands for?).  This means that creative ways need to be established in order to bring the gospel to these peoples - this is why these areas are also called CANs.

In my personal research I've found that many of the unreached "ethne" (nations) are nomadic people groups who live in places like Kyrgzystan and shepherd sheep and goats (i.e.-the picture here).  I'm broken by the fact that after 2000 years of the Christian faith there are still 2.6 billion, or almost 40% of the worlds population, that has no known witness among their people group.

When I consider that my primary objectives as a follow of Christ are found in Matthew 28:18-20 and John 13:34-35 it makes me wonder what my performance appraisal is going to be like.  I'm reminded that, "no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account." One day we will all stand before God and asked what we did in this life to seek first His Kingdom and carry out God's desire and live in God's story for His glory.  I'm afraid much of my story is going to be about my kingdom (desire, story and glory).

The statistics on this post were taken from the Joshua Project.

loving my neighbor...

100_0642 While we were on our trip we met a really cool family.  There names were Jim and Lisa Coburn.  It might appear that they only have one child but look closely there is another playing "where's waldo".

Jim and Lisa have been taking the commandment to love their neighbor to new heights and the Lord is using their passion to mold and shape in their hearts a very fresh Christlikeness.

It was so refreshing to talk with them and hear their story and how God was at work in their family and neighborhood.  Be praying for their family as they seek to live out Christ.

You can contact their family through their [website].

Our trip to NYC...

So one of the highlights of our anniversary road trip was a visit for an evening and a day to New York City.  It was amazing, shocking, diverse and dirty all in the same breath.  (If you know what I mean.)  Here's some pictures to share what it was like.  Unfortunately we ran out of battery when we got to Central park so we don't have any pictures from there on. (the subway, Ground Zero, Petra and Paul, and all the other cool stuff).

I'll start with the end because it's a pretty funny story... at the end of the NYC excursion we were sitting at the bus terminal waiting for our bus to take us back out to my cousin Diana's house.  We encountered an elderly couple who had lost their way and needed to find their bus there in the Port Authority.  However, we were literally 2 minutes from having our bus leave.  I told Maggy to head to the bus and that I would make it some how.  I took them to their bus and then did the OJ Simpson run through the terminal with my backpack with all of our gear all the way back over to our escalator and up to the bus.  I made it to the bus as he was shutting the door and releasing the air brake.  I pounded on the door and he opened the door and I got on.  It was "in a New York minute"! (c:  I only wish I could have gotten a picture of it.

We stayed here at the Westin at Times Square.  The design of this building really stood out from the rest of the buildings downtown I thought.

100_0731 100_0730 The room was really sweet looking and very relaxing.

They even had terry clothe bath robes, and Starbuck's coffee which we took full advantage of! Can you tell we were amazed?  I mean who takes a picture of Starbuck's coffee and bath robes.  The room just amazed us and it really set the mood for just an amazing night out on the town.

The view from our room over the city was really amazing too!

My parent's bought us tickets to see "The Phantom of the Opera" which was something both of us wanted to do so bad.  Neither of us had actually seen it but we knew most of the music.  Before the show we ate pizza at a really cool brick oven place called John's which was right across the street from our theater.

This is our food being made.  We got a calzone with spinach, green peppers, and saugage.  A glass of wine of which Maggy took one sip and said she felt tingly. (c:

We weren't technically supposed to take pictures inside the theater so (c: pretend you didn't see these.

this picture here to the left is of my wife while I was in the balcony up above.  You can see her in the bottom center of the picture in the black dress.  Those were our seats!  I could have kicked a paper football onto the stage (c: Thanks again mom and dad, you guys rock!!!

After the show we walked the streets in the city that never sleeps.  We kicked it with "them" until midnight and then headed back to the Westin.  But not before we stopped in at Ben & Jerry's for some "chubby hubby", which they didn't have unfortunately, so we settled for one of their other amazing flavors.  Chubby Hubby is our favorite and we treat ourselves to it on special occasions.

100_0765This street magacian was amazing!

The next morning we got up early and headed out to see the sites. But our camera ran out of battery about noon.100_0778 100_0779 We didn't take the carriage ride or the row boat under the famous bridge while we were in Central Park.  My dream was to do that at night but we ran out of time.  We took a picture of it anyway.  This was my last picture... )c: and so it's the end of my post.
